Seven students—Melanie Faulk, Archibald King, Rachel Cho, Katherine Alexanderson, Michael Hickey, Maggie Wang and Jake Candelaria—were awarded a plaque and $2,500 during the opening night of the national Beta Alpha Psi meeting.
Earlier this year, these students had applied for and received funds to bring an ethics panel to Fordham. That panel, held in February, featured working professionals alongside business, philosophy and theology faculty. They discussed topics such as new whistleblower laws and the application of Jesuit principles in business. Student Jackie Brennan coordinated the event and the competition submission.
The event impressed Beta Alpha Psi’s national organization enough to earn the students the $2,500 award. The funds were supplied by Grant Thornton.
Beta Alpha Psi is an honor organization for financial information students and professionals. Fordham’s chapter has been recognized as a Superior Chapter for 17 consecutive years.
Kelly Ulto, a clinical assistant professor in accounting and taxation, served as faculty adviser for the project.
